Did you know that at least 2 billion people, globally, drink water coming from sources that have fecal contamination? According to the World Health Organization, contaminated water can cause diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio. It is also the cause of an estimated 485,000 diarrheal deaths each year.
In this manner, the so-called HWTS, or the Household Water Treatment (i.e. filtering and boiling water) and Safe Storage, is an important public health intervention to improve the quality of our drinking water, and reduce or prevent contracting waterborne diseases.
Always know where your drinking water comes from, how it is treated, and if it’s safe to drink.
