Wider access to trade, unified standards, and competitive systems and innovations – these are the factors that will make the halal industry thrive in the Philippines, based on the collective sentiment at the Philippine Halal Assembly (PHA) International Conference and Expo, an international gathering of Halal industry players held at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City on June 03-05, 2015.
Carrying the theme “Synergizing Halal thru S & T”, the assembly was spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XII and attended by leaders and heads of agencies and institutions worldwide from the government, industry/business sector, local government units, and the civil society, and other Halal stakeholders and supporters with roles in research, marketing, and the Halal production value chain and supply chain.
PHA participants witnessed the unveiling of the DOST XII Philippine Halal Logo, attended plenary sessions on topics that ranged from the role of technological and scientific innovations in Halal economic development to the campaign to unify Halal standards and participated in workshops on branding and marketing Halal products and Islamic finance systems.
