To stay healty until the day of slaugther or harvest, livestock, poultry, and aquaculture animals are administered with antibiotics or veterinary drugs with correct dosages at precise schedules. Veterinary Drug Residues (VDR) are eliminated or reduced to acceptable levels if adequate withdrawal period is observed. The concentration of veterinary drug should be within the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) or totally absent upon slaughter because VDR can cause negative effects to certain products or the consumer. In addition, meat and other animal-derived products such as eggs and milk can be conduit of VDR. They are considered as chemical hazards due to their potential to breach food safety, develop drug-resistant microorganisms, change animal gut natural microflora, and violate industrial standards set by the government. The presence of excessive veterinary drug residues in food products may lead to hypersensitivity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and teratogenicity. To promote consumer health against improper use of veterinary drugs in food producing animals, the Department of Agriculture proclaimed Administrative Order No. 14 series of 2006 wherein concerned government agencies and private institutions shall conduct regular monitoring of products possibly contaminated with VDR.

Glenwood offers a broad range of test kits fo the screening of banned and regulated VDR in a wide variety of food and feed samples. These tools are helpful to rapidly detect the presence of these chemical hazards, ensuring safety of the consumers and avoiding food safety breach.
