This Women’s Month, Food Safety Trends PH Magazine, Glenwood Technologies International, Inc., and the Institute for Food Safety Advancement recognize women whose work has significantly contributed to the advancement of food safety, quality, and food science in the country.
Among them is Dr. Miflora Minoza-Gatchalian, a respected leader in food technology and quality management whose decades of service have left a lasting impact on the profession.
Dr. Gatchalian was recently recognized as the 2024 Outstanding Professional of the Year for Food Technology and is a recipient of the Eric C. Nubla Achievement Award, one of the highest recognitions conferred by the Professional Regulation Commission.
She is the Founding President of the Philippine Association of Food Technologists (PAFT, Inc.) and a retired Full Professor of the University of the Philippines.
Her professional work extends well beyond academia. Dr. Gatchalian has served as a consultant on quality and food safety for numerous organizations and institutions in the Philippines and abroad. She has also contributed to international initiatives as a United Nations consultant on quality and as a technical adviser on standards and quality programs in Asia.
Internationally recognized for her expertise, she is an Academician Emeritus of the International Academy for Quality and a Fellow of the American Society for Quality. Throughout her career, she has also supported the development of food safety, quality management, and standards systems through collaborations with government agencies, academic institutions, and industry organizations.
Dr. Gatchalian has authored several publications and books on quality management, food safety, and sensory evaluation, including Sensory Quality Measurement: Statistical Analysis of Human Responses, the 4th edition (with co-authors) of which was launched during the 18th ASEAN Food Conference (AFC) hosted by the Philippines and organized by PAFT, Inc., at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City last September 23–25, 2025.
Her publications continue to serve as valuable references for professionals and researchers.
Her contributions reflect a lifetime of dedication to advancing food safety, strengthening quality systems, and mentoring the next generation of professionals in the field.
