Today marks the beginning of the Food Safety Awareness Week here in the Philippines, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 160, series of 1999. This observance serves as an important reminder of the public’s right to safe food, an essential element of good health and protection against foodborne illnesses.
Food safety is a shared responsibility: farmers and producers must adopt good agricultural practices and implement an effective food safety management system; business operators must ensure that food remains safe throughout production and distribution; the government must uphold and enforce food safety standards; and the public must stay informed and practice proper food handling and hygiene at home.
Together, these collective efforts safeguard every step of the food chain—from farm to fork—ensuring that every Filipino has access to safe, quality, and nutritious food.
Food Safety Trends PH, Glenwood Technologies, and Institute for Food Safety Advancement support the National Food Safety Awareness Week. Always remember, FOOD SAFETY IS BOTH A RIGHT AND A RESPONSIBILITY.
