Happy Food Safety Awareness Week, Fellow Food Safety Ambassadors!
Celebrated every last week of October, this week is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of safe food practices to protect our health and well-being. Remember the four steps to keep food safe and protect your loved ones from foodborne illnesses:
- Clean - Regularly wash hands, kitchen surfaces, and food produce thoroughly to prevent the spread of bacteria that cause foodborne illnesses.
- Separate - Avoid cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards and plates for raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs.
- Cook - Cook food to the proper temperature to ensure harmful bacteria are eliminated.
- Chill - Refrigerate food promptly, and never leave perishables at room temperature for too long.
Following these four steps – Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill – builds a strong foundation for food safety and helps ensure that every meal we prepare is as safe as it is enjoyable.
