Halloween is just right around the corner, and Filipino families may commemorate the annual event by doing things differently this year since the on-going COVID-19 pandemic has limited the number of activities people could partake in.
Here are some ideas on how to safely celebrate Halloween during the pandemic:
1. Stay at home and have a Halloween movie marathon with your family or a virtual Halloween party with your friends complete with games, creepy stories, and costume contests.
2. Bake sweet Halloween treats and cookies. Avoid eating cake mix, raw cookie dough, batter, or any other raw dough that is supposed to be cooked or baked as it may be contaminated by Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O121.
3. Cook Halloween-inspired dishes. Scare the bacteria away by keeping all perishable foods chilled in the refrigerator until serving time. Do not leave perishables out of the refrigerator for more than two hours.
If you plan to go out and participate in public Halloween events, such as Trick-or-Treating, make sure to follow COVID-19 guidelines issued by health officials in your area. Always remember to wear your mask, practice proper hand hygiene, and social distancing.
