To promote consumer health against illegal use of veterinary drugs in food producing animals, the Department of Agriculture proclaimed Administrative Order No. 14 series of 2006, wherein concerned government agencies and private institutions shall conduct regular monitoring of products with possible risk of veterinary drug residues.
Banned veterinary drugs for use in food-producing animals are:
-Chloramphenicol
-Carbadox
-Olaquindox
-Nitrofurans
-Beta-Agonist drugs (e.g. Clenbuterol, Ractopamine, Salbutamol)
Regulated veterinary drugs with specific Maximum Residue Limit (MRL):
-Beta-lactams
-Tetracyclines
-Sulfonamides
-Aminoglycosides
-Macrolides
-Quinolones
-Hormones
